In Good Company

What do St Peter’s College, Geelong Grammar School, Knox Grammar School, St Catherine’s School (Sydney), St Michael’s Grammar School (Melbourne), Trinity College, Canberra Grammar School, Peninsula Grammar, Scotch College, St John’s Grammar School, Brisbane Grammar School, Ravenswood School for Girls, Christ Church Grammar School, Ballarat Grammar, King’s College (Auckland), Melbourne University and Investigator College all have in common?

Firstly, most of these world-leading educational institutions are Anglican and, secondly, they have all embraced Positive Psychology and Positive Education and embedded it into the very fabric of their thriving existence. Yes, Investigator College is a member of the Positive Education Schools Association and accordingly is now mixing with the very best from Australia and overseas.

I am proud to announce that our entire staff team, including non-teaching staff, is spending a full day training in this scientifically validated approach to education and school culture, as we make giant steps forward in our quest to be a flourishing College and community.

Accordingly, please note that all offices will be closed on Monday 19 July (last day of the holiday break). School resumes on Tuesday 20 July.

Farewell Rachel Coghlan

A great number of you have enjoyed our high quality musicals over the years, and many of these have been the result of the artistic talents of our Senior Drama Teacher, Rachel Coghlan – not to mention the many, many hours she has put in to ensure a memorable experience for the students and audience alike.

Rachel has been a staff member since the beginning of Investigator, taking leave to raise a family and returning in 2007. Rachel leaves us at the end of term to focus on family and other pursuits (including horse riding) and will be greatly missed by us all.

Little Investigators News

Following a period of maternity leave, I have accepted the resignation of ELC Director Louise Davies.

Louise is to be congratulated on succeeding in setting up a high quality ELC from scratch, which is a mammoth task. She is also to be thanked for her hard work on the Senior Executive of the College and her efforts in the area of community engagement.

We wish Louise continued success in her future endeavours, and wonderful times ahead with her husband, Scott, and baby Evan.

The position of ELC Director (full-time permanent) will be advertised soon. In the meantime, I am so grateful to Acting Director Vanessa Harvie and the team for their fabulous work.

Thank You

A huge thank you to the many parents who attended our cyber-safety seminar, led by arguably Australia’s foremost speaker in this area, Susan McLean. Susan’s messages were hard-hitting and she stressed the need for parents to be parents (not friends) with their children. Saying no might be uncomfortable at the time but it could save your child’s life or – at the very least – their digital reputation and self-respect. This was followed the next day by sessions for all students from Years 5-12. I encourage you to discuss these with your child.

A 3-Week Break

We have joined the other independent colleges and are pleased to be providing a three-week mid-year break for the students for the first time. I trust that you will all manage to do something special as a family during this time. Even something as simple as playing a board game, going for a walk as a family or gardening together can provide wonderful childhood memories that can be drawn upon during not-so-good days. Thank you for your continued support. Go Investigator!
