From 2 December to 9 December the College sent five teams to the National Australian Volleyball Schools Cup Competition in Melbourne.

The teams consisted of:

Open Boys – coach Andrew Palumbo

Open Girls – coach Jodie O’Donnell

Year 9 Girls – coach Jacob Crate assisted by Jess Lovering

Year 9 Boys – coach Jakob Zitterbart assisted by Nicole Ranson

Year 8 Girls – coach Lauren Travis

All of our teams trained hard throughout the year in preparation for the tournament and all teams performed very well, as they often dealt with demanding schedules, spread over three different venues.

The Open Boys and Open Girls teams both won silver medals. Our Year 8 Girls won bronze. This was an outstanding achievement by these teams, given the huge competition.

While in Melbourne all teams had the opportunity to experience all that Melbourne has to offer, including the Queen Victoria Market, DFO, the various food eateries, the Southbank precinct and the vibrancy that a large city offers.

The staff were very proud of the way our students conducted themselves throughout the entire week. They worked hard, supported each other and really took advantage of an outstanding competition. Many of them will remember this trip forever.

A special mention to Mr Jacob Crate who celebrated his tenth year of participation in this event, as an athlete as well as a coach! Mr Crate was recognised at the Award ceremony.

We can’t wait until the 2018 competition!
