Our Certificate III Conservation and Land Management students have recently completed the unit – AHCLPW306 – Undertake sampling and testing of water. This unit involves calibrating a range of water testing equipment, chemical and biological sampling and laboratory tests. One of the laboratory tests conducted through SA Water is DNA profiling which is cutting edge technology. This year’s results show an exciting new addition to the recently constructed wetland and lagoon at Currency Creek Trades Skills Centre with the inclusion of fish.  The lagoon has been integral in the relationship between Investigator College and industry partners such as the Murray Darling Basin Natural Resource Management Board, Aquasave NGO and the Southern Bell Frog recovery program. Students have been monitoring the increase in water quality, so it’s very exciting to see that fish are now a major component of the vertebrates in the lagoon.
