A full PASC Theatre greeted our performers in this year’s Spring Showcase, as the Investigator College community gathered for an evening of outstanding performances, celebrating the talent of our student musicians and vocalists.

Commencing with a soulful performance of ‘Proud Mary‘ from our Festival Choir, the audience were entertained from start to finish as our future stars of the stage

Guests were treated to some sensational solo vocal performances from Chloe Coombs (True Colours by Cyndi Lauper), Saskia Zorkovic (Part Of Your World by Jodi Benson), alongside a beautiful duet from Noah Fitton and Matilda Slee (Re-Write The Stars from The Greatest Showman), before our Middle School bands stepped into the spotlight with a blues-heavy rendition of Etta James’ 1968 classic I’d Rather Go Blind, followed by a driving performance of It’s A Long Way To The Top by classic Australian rock outfit AC/DC, sending the audience toe-tapping and beat-clapping into the intermission.

The delicious attraction of fresh popcorn and refreshments, kindly facilitated by the Investigator College Parents and Friends Association, ensured our audience was kept well-energised for the second half of the performance, with Anne Todd’s Guitar Ensemble welcoming guests back to their seats, as they performed ‘Flarumba’ and Bruno Mars’ ‘Count On Me’ with great skill and precision.

Willem Dunkley impressed on solo guitar, performing two pieces: ‘Andantino’ (Johann Kaspar Mertz) and ‘Tango In The Rain’ (Richard Charlton), showcasing some impressive technical ability, and a degree of confidence that comes by way of years of practice. Impressively, Willem almost remained on stage for the remainder of the evening, playing as a member of both the Year 12 and Senior School Band, as they both supported vocalists and impressed with their own renditions of two modern classics.

Our Year 10 Band displayed stylistic versatility and range, moving from ‘Nothing Else Matters‘ by Metallica, into the more soulful tones of Miles Davis and Jackson Browne, with covers of ‘Freddie Freeloader’ and ‘Doctor My Eyes‘ – with members of the Investigator College staff lending a hand to round out the sound with additional instruments and vocals – before vocalists Abbey Parker and Matthew Boyd joined the Year 12 Band for Don’t Know Why (Norah Jones) and If I Can Dream (Elvis Presley).

A two-song set from our Senior Band rounded out the evening, with performances of ‘Big Jet Plane’ (Angus and Julia Stone) and ‘Hottentot’ (John Scofield) ensuring that our audience left the PASC both entertained and impressed by the talent on display throughout.

Overall, this year’s Spring Showcase was a glowing testament to the ever-expanding performing arts program at Investigator College, with a record number of performers taking the stage to share their talent with the College community. As our choirs, ensembles and bands continue to grow in both student membership and overall number, it is wonderful to see parents, staff and peers showing their support and encouragement for our burgeoning performers.

A big thank you to:

  • Mr Cass Crichton, Miss Lisa Pointon, Mrs Martine Lacomme and Miss Eva Zorkovic for their effort in both their organisation of the evening and in their accompaniment of our students on stage;
  • our talented music teachers and tutors for their hard work and dedication to the students throughout the year;
  • our Junior, Middle and Senior School staff for their support, both with rehearsals and in ensuring the evening ran smoothly;
  • Roxy Music for their expertise in technical operation and recording of the event;
  • the Parents and Friends Association for volunteering their time to provide refreshments for our audience; and,
  • our administration staff for promoting and supporting the event, selling tickets and ensuring plenty of photographs were taken on the night.

Investigator College would also like to extend a special thank you to the parents, caregivers, families and friends of our students for attending, supporting our performing arts program, and encouraging our performers as they continue to impress on our stage!

A recording of this year’s Spring Showcase is currently being compiled by Roxy Music, and will be made available to all students, parents and caregivers in the near future. Stay tuned!
