On Friday 1 April our Year 5/6 AFL/AFLW teams headed off for the SAPSASSA Southern Fleurieu Football Carnival.

Fourteen Year 5/6 boys represented Investigator College at the Encounter Bay Football Club, finishing undefeated for the day winning all five of their matches convincingly.

The Grand Final against Mt Compass saw Investigator College burst out of the blocks with Ben White kicking three goals in the opening minutes. This put the team in an excellent position and we were able to control play for the remainder of the game.

The standard of football was high, but most impressive was the way the team members conducted themselves, encouraging each other and showing outstanding sportsmanship.

Notable performances included Hamish French, Tyler Wiese, Harry Nott, Jack Lewis, Leo Tarca and Luke Modra.

The girls team travelled to the Victor Harbor Football Club and competed against four other schools from the district. Our team went out with a positive mindset as many of our players have not ever played footy before and they all loved it. All of the girls had so much fun and they realised how good they were at playing AFL.

We lost our first game only by two points against Victor Harbor Primary School. The team won against Goolwa Primary School easily by three goals. Eastern Fleurieu School was the biggest challenge of the day and we lost by four goals to them. Our last match was amazing against Encounter Lutheran and we won again, two goals to one.

The girls all improved throughout the day and were so eager to learn; and they improved dramatically from the start to the finish.

We ended up coming third for the Carnival which is amazing! Thank you so much to the two Myponga girls who joined our team for the day. They were both amazing and helped us out so much!

Thank you to Mr Freebairn, Ms Maidment and Mr Tenny for the work they put in leading up to  this competition.
