Wellbeing and Community Development – Mental Health Awareness

I was alerted last week to a Netflix production ‘13 Reasons Why’.

The series is a confronting and graphic portrayal of a young woman who commits suicide after outlining the 13 ‘reasons’ for her death.  Some maintain the series provides a valuable mechanism with which to enter into discussion about suicide while others believe the show exposes viewers to disturbing imagery and suicide messages.

The production is aimed at young people and has divided opinion as to its usefulness with many wellbeing professionals urging ‘caution’ for parents and educators.

I have been made aware of several resources that are available:

While acknowledging I have not viewed the program, I have received sufficient information to warrant highlighting this as a possible wellbeing concern for our young people.

Please contact me at the College should you require any further clarification/information.

Annual General Meeting

The College will hold its Annual General Meeting [for the 2016 school year] on the evening of Wednesday 24 May, 7:00pm,  Investigator Senior, Victor Harbor.

This is an opportunity for the Association [parents, staff and community members] to gather and celebrate the significant progress and success of the past 12 months.

New members will be elected onto the College Board – the group charged with the responsibility of governing the College and it will also be an opportunity for us to acknowledge the significant contribution of members stepping down.

In addition the draft plans will
be on display for:

  • the Investigator College Eco-Sustainability Trade Skills Centre, Currency Creek
  • the Investigator College Early Learning Centre – Stage 1 [Victor Harbor] and Stage 2 [Goolwa]

Finally, if you have not had the good fortune to tour the new Senior School facility – there will be an opportunity to do so on the night.
