From Our Head of Junior School

A busy Term 4 begins

Thursday, 24 October 2024
Welcome back to a brand-new term. As the weather warms up, the students and staff will need to as well as it is a very busy couple of months that we have ahead of us.

As we prepare for exciting new facilities at Investigator, the short-term pain is underway as students get used to services being relocated (in case you missed it, our old Admin Building is currently closed and has been relocated to Room 27). By the time we all get used to it, we will probably have to change again – but by that point we will have amazing new facilities available to our students and their families.

New students

At the start of each Term, we look forward to welcoming students and families into our school. The Manfield family has returned after their exciting lap around Australia. We welcome back Angus into 3.1 with Mrs Gurner. Edwina has joined 4.1 with Mr Donley and Miss Pointon, and Annabel has commenced in 6.3 with Miss Coppock. The Manfield family is in Blue Gum House.

We also welcome Fletcher Kleine to Blue Gum and Mrs Shearer’s Reception class. We are also delighted to welcome Grace (Banksia), Sullivan, Flynn, Ted ( Blue Gum), Cartier (Waratah) and Spencer (Wattle House) to the Early Learning Centre this Term.

All were in good voice

Late last term we conducted the House Song Competition in the Junior School. The aims of this activity included to:

  • Improve the relationships within each House so students have another layer of friends outside their year level.
  • Add another anti-bullying strategy, as students are less likely to bully and more likely to help someone they know.
  • Help students to build relationships with different teachers and vice versa. Students are more comfortable talking to a yard duty teacher they know.
  • Having fun time at school celebrating together a great term of work!

Thank you to Miss Pointon and Mrs Gurner who coordinated this very enjoyable activity. Wattle was declared the overall winners, while Blue Gum took out the House Spirit Award. Charlotte and Harlen from Wattle and Sophia and Ollie from Blue Gum are pictured below with the trophies.

Reader’s Rap

Near the end of last Term, 11 Investigator students from Year 5 and Year 6 participated in the annual Reader’s Rap competition, involving teams from various Fleurieu Peninsula schools analysing selected books.

For the second consecutive year, one of our three teams achieved first place, winning by a narrow margin of 0.5 points. Another team secured a commendable third place. Congratulations to our hard-working students!
