Regrowth elephant
Last week, selected Year 4 and Year 6 teams visited Kidman Park Primary School for the Naturally Brave/Maker’s Empire showcase. The students participated in a design competition, where they were tasked with creating and 3D printing an innovative solution to assist before, during, or after a natural disaster. One of our Year 6 teams (Nash, Zaree, Ella and Harriett) excelled in the competition, securing 1st place in the Industry Award for their highly inventive ‘Regrowth Elephant’!
Fauna at Currency Creek
Year 5s have been busy at the Currency Creek EcoCentre, focusing on animal adaptations as part of their Biological Sciences Curriculum. In Week 4 students set fauna cameras to capture images of animals living at the site. They spent time in the field looking for evidence of animals and identifying tracks and scats. Students chose four different locations and captured images of a wide range of birds, mammals and reptiles.
In Week 5 students spent the day learning about the adaptations of reptiles. We studied local turtle species and fyke nets were set in the river to try to catch some local species. Students got in the water with waders to check the nets. This year we didn’t find any turtles, but we caught a variety of native and introduced fish, shrimp and yabbies. Students were also involved in a session on snake safety. Students learnt about their specific physical and behavioural adaptations and were led through a snake bite first aid session. We would like to thank Sylvia Zukowski from AquaSave for running the turtle sessions this year.
On the final visit in Week 6 students focused on the unique adaptations of bats. We would like to thank Dennis Matthews, a bat expert from the Adelaide Museum and Adelaide University, who shared his knowledge about how amazing bats are.
Thank you Ms Donley
Mrs Meadows and the students in her Year 2 class have enjoyed having an extra pair of hands helping them for the past few weeks. Ms Donley has completed her third year teacher training placement with us here at Investigator and we very much enjoyed having her helping us.
Investigator College Shines on Glenelg Beach
Recently, a group of 30 Year 5 and 6 students from Investigator College made their way to Glenelg Beach for the annual Beach Volleyball Competition. The weather was perfect, the excitement was high, and our students were ready to take on the challenge.
Supported by teachers Mr. Lane, Mrs. Stopp, and Mr. Tenny, along with Year 10 students Jack Oxford and Jack Prosser and a team of dedicated parents, Investigator entered six teams — three competing in Division 2 and three in Division 3.
Our Division 2 teams fought valiantly throughout the day. Despite many close matches and intense moments, they upheld the strict rules presented at the morning briefing and represented the College with exceptional sportsmanship. While they didn’t secure a medal, their dedication and effort were truly commendable.
In Division 3, our teams demonstrated outstanding performance. Team 4 went undefeated, clinching the Gold Medal. Congratulations to Juliet, Jimi, Darcy, Franklin, and Frankie on their remarkable achievement!
A huge round of applause goes to all students who represented Investigator College. Their efforts, integrity, and competitive spirit were exemplary. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved, and we couldn’t be prouder of our students’ accomplishments on the sand.
