Students can now gain direct entry into selected degrees in the fields of computing/IT, education, engineering, science and sport, through recognition of prior learning independently of their ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).

The process involves achieving a qualifying grade across relevant subjects and completing SACE, the Activating Identities and Futures subject and a relevant Vocational Education & Training (VET) course.

“Many people think of ATAR scores as the one and only pathway to university study,” College Principal John Robinson said.

“We have negotiated these additional pathways in partnership with Flinders University to help students achieve their post-school career aspirations.

“ATAR remains the foremost pathway, but this new arrangement provides much deserved recognition for the vocational skills gained via VET courses – which are highly valued by universities.

“These new pathways will give students and their families greater confidence in their final and most difficult years of schooling as they approach university entry.

“In particular, our new pathways into Education (Secondary Health and PE), Engineering (Honours) and Business (Sports Management) Bachelor degrees are unique and worth drawing attention to.”

Investigator College’s additional pathways also allow ambitious students to get a head start on university, by completing two selected university subjects (known as ‘extension studies’) and having them count towards their SACE.

Likewise, career-minded students can often commence their vocational training in Year 11 – allowing them to progress towards their goals sooner, while freeing up time for intensive study during Year 12.

“What to do after school is one of the biggest decisions a person has to make in their life,” Mr Robinson said.

“That is why we have invested in pathways at Investigator College. Our SACE & Future Pathways Coordinator, Mel Kerin, has hit the ground running, making the most of the vocational pathways available to Investigator College students.”
