It was a great opportunity for students from different schools around the state to interact with each other and explore our wonderful Currency Creek EcoCentre and the many different branches of sustainability and conservation.
This year we secured eleven industry hosts and workshop presenters throughout three main areas; creative industries, ecology, and ecosystem operation. Some of our hosts within these areas included Investigator’s very own Django Westmoreland (Year 10) running a bird watching session through the grounds, Erinn Fagan-Jeffries, a researcher from the University of Adelaide, hosting a workshop on insects and bees, a hands-on experience with Sylvia Zukowski, a freshwater ecologist, Seiji Iowa, a local park ranger, and Amanda Conway-Jones for a creative session on indigenous art.
One of the best things about the day was the speed-meet networking session, where students personally interacted with our passionate and knowledgeable industry hosts and environmental experts. This session gave students insight into the work of different industry specialists and hopefully inspired them to work towards that career in the future. By speaking with the experts one-on-one, it gave them personal insight and access to knowledge.
We have had immensely positive feedback about the event, from students and teachers at different schools who attended the day, the presenting industry hosts.
We can’t wait for next years event and encourage all who are able, to attend!
