NAPLAN, New Faces, and Athletic Feats

Tuesday, 2 April 2024
The families of students in Years 3, 5, 7 or 9 may have heard the word NAPLAN bandied about by the students over the past two weeks.

This standardised measurement of progress is now complete, and we can turn our focus toward other matters. The Year 3 classes are especially appreciative of this as it now means their weekly trips to our Currency Creek site can commence uninterrupted.

New faces

In recent weeks we have had a number of new students join our Investigator team. Welcome to Alice Mulvihill (Year 5 / Blue Gum), pictured above with some new friends, Jax Gray (Yr 1/ Banksia) and his brother Jye Gray (Yr 3 / Banksia) who have commenced in the Junior School and are settling in well.

Sports Day Record Holders

While the athletic carnival that took place recently was a great success, Mr Tenny and I have decided to begin a tradition of maintaining measurements and times to establish the school-age records for the various events such as shot put, 100m, discus, high jump and long jump.  The winners of the various events this year therefore become the record holder – until at least 2025!

Drop Off Reminder

As most families would understand, a settled start to the day goes a long way to ensuring an enjoyable and successful day. As adults, running late for an appointment causes anxiety and no doubt diminishes the effectiveness of the activity. It is the same for the children if they come in late to class. Currently we have noticed some families arriving late, after the bell, which is disruptive for the other students and possibly anxiety provoking for the child who arrived late. Life is unpredictable and things can go astray, but if possible, having the students at school before the 8:50am bell, so that students can be settled and organised, ready to begin lessons at 9:00am sets them up for success.

Another Awesome Set of Efforts

Last edition we were alerted to the fact that Audrey Hall (Yr 6/ Blue Gum) is an amazing swimmer who has proven to be an outstanding athlete in the pool. Recently she travelled to compete in the Crystal Brook Swimming Carnival and returned home with another 10 medals to decorate her bedroom. She collected six gold, two silvers and two bronze medals in a wonderful display of consistency. To top it off she also broke three pool records!

🥇 1st – 25m free – a pool record of 16.33
🥇 1st – 25m fly – a PB and pool record of 17.49
🥇 1st – 100m free and a PB of 1:19.92
🥇 1st – 25m back – a PB and pool record of 20.33
🥇 1st – 25m fly HCP
🥇 1st – 25m dash for cash (she won $60 which she will spend wisely I’m sure)
🥈 2nd 12&under – 50m fly
🥈 2nd 12&under – mixed 50m free
🥉 3rd mixed 50m back
🥉3rd – medley team relay

Not surprisingly with a haul of medals like that, she also scored the most points out of all the swimmers at the carnival, with 152 points for her club.
