Student Leadership

We pride ourselves on giving students the capacity to demonstrate leadership in a number of different areas. On the sporting arena, in bands, in the classroom and around the school. The formal leadership positions available in the Middle Years have now been elected for 2024. The students had to write an application and then speak in front of their peers before going to the polls. The fear of speaking in public is very real for many people, of all ages, and I applaud those who could demonstrate their Character Strength of bravery to go through this process.

Our 2024 Middle Years Student Leaders are:

Middle Years Captains
Hannah McPherson
Oscar Hirsch

Wellbeing Leaders
Hamish Farrelly and Olivia Leonard
Evelina Serafin and Jorja Jaensch

Sustainability Leaders
Charlie Zukowski and Levi Weedon
Xavier Oakley and Brodie Cousins

House Leaders
Banksia – Hamish French and Ruby Priest
Blue Gum – Harry Nott and Lucas Tunbridge
Waratah – Ailie Scott and Harry Whalen
Wattle – Maggie-Rose Mallord and Willow Slee

Congratulations to those who have won positions and I look forward to working with these leaders to make the Middle Years at Investigator vibrant and an energetic place to learn and enjoy the many activities on offer.

The Leaders will be presented with their badges of office at the Middle Years Assembly on Wednesday 21 February.

Investig8

Friday afternoons at Investigator is a special time when the Investig8 program is in full swing. The program offers extensive opportunities for students to explore and discover new talents and skills or to follow their passion in an area that falls outside of the general curriculum.

Some of the activities on offer this year include Arts and Textiles, Electronic Music Production, Robotics, Photography, Multicultural Cooking, Sailing, Surfing, Gym and Fitness, Creative Writing, Sustainability and Food Production, and ball sport based activities such as Football, Volleyball, Basketball. The College Musical is also an option for those who love to perform on the stage and for those who like to work behind it.

The enthusiasm on a Friday is palpable. Students can be seen sharing their knowledge with others, learning new skills keenly, or just having fun outside the regular classroom.

Sports Days

Our major House-based Sports Days are upon us. Surf Carnival was swum and won on Friday 16 February. Students were bussed off to Horseshoe Bay for a day of unique Investigator College fun. Not many schools can boast a swimming day that has events like boogie boarding, paddle races, flag sprints, beach volleyball and triathlon iron man run, swim, paddle. We are truly blessed to have this unique experience at our doorstep. Full results will be released shortly.

Athletics Sports Day is approaching in Week 6. In PE lessons, students are already doing trials and learning the techniques to improve their distances or times. House Captains are doing their best to inspire and organise their charges and the House BBQ was held on Monday 12 February. It is awesome to see House spirit grow in the name of friendly competition and rivalry. Come on Wattle, this is our year!
