The Importance of Good Role Models

Monday, 19 February 2024
Student leadership and role models play crucial roles in shaping the development and growth of young individuals. At Investigator we have numerous opportunities for students to step into leadership and we know they are surrounded by so many good role models.

Those role models can take the shape of a subject teacher, sports coach, musical leader, and for our Year 9s, their Rite Journey mentor teachers. Of course, other students can be wonderful role models.

On Monday of Week 4, we held our first Year 9-12 assembly. This is the first time that our Year 9s were able to join their older peers and enjoy the Senior School environment. Our College Captains and Vice Captains led this service. They spoke of the importance of leadership, but also the qualities of a good leader. We also congratulated our new student leaders; House Leaders, Sustainability Leaders and Wellbeing Leaders. Please add student leaders photo. Why is student leadership and the influence of mentors so important?

Inspiration and Aspiration: Student leaders and role models serve as sources of inspiration for their peers. Their actions, achievements and attitudes can motivate others to set high goals and strive for excellence in various aspects of their lives.

Guidance and Mentorship: Effective student leaders often take on mentorship roles, providing guidance and support to their peers. They can offer advice, share experiences and help navigate challenges, whether academic, personal or social.

Positive Influence: Role models exhibit positive behaviours and values, such as integrity, responsibility, empathy and resilience. By emulating these qualities, students can cultivate a positive school culture and contribute to a harmonious learning environment.

Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion: Student leaders who embrace diversity and inclusivity can foster a sense of belonging among their peers. By celebrating differences and advocating for equity, they create opportunities for all students to thrive regardless of background or identity.

We are so fortunate to be surrounded by positive leaders and role models at Investigator College. I look forward to watching them grow and thrive in these roles for 2024.

Term 1 is always a very busy term for us at Investigator and I encourage you all to keep abreast of the many upcoming activities for our Senior School students. These extra experiences and opportunities really add value to the holistic development of our students.

Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support of the College. It is a privilege to lead our Senior School again in 2024.
