The Investigator Scarecrow also won the Governors Choice Special Award and the People’s Choice Award. I had no idea one entry could command so many prizes.
This means that our Scarecrow will assume official duties in the Government House vegetable patch for three months. The Scarecrow will be a feature attraction for members of the public at the Government House Open Day in November.
The Year 5s are also invited to Government House to meet Her Excellency the Governor and tour the State Rooms of Government House.
This effort will be very hard to top next year….
Zen and Sebastian shine
The IPSHA Junior Orator of The Year comp was held at Immanuel in early September and was amazing once again. Thank you to Mr Tenny for the following write-up:
“We hear time and time again in the media about how the youth of today are out of control. And the youth the media talk about may be, but the youth I continue to see at Investigator and most other schools are exceptional human beings that the earth is lucky to have.
Zen Burgess (Year 6 / Banksia House) and Sebastian Warhurst (Year 5 / Waratah) were exceptional speakers who represented Investigator College admirably. Zen was part of a group of eight and the top four, Zen being one of them, were inseparable judging-wise and all did not use notes in their speeches!
Lucia from Loreto spoke on how sticky notes create kindness, while Neal from St Peter’s talk on space junk was enthusiastic, insightful and humorous. And then we had Avaya from Immanuel who ended up being Zen’s section winner, getting up and proclaiming that she would be the next Prime Minister of Australia. But she didn’t win overall in the Year 6 category, with this honour going to Shareef from St Andrew’s for his talk on vultures. “Oh yuck, what is that bird doing? I have never seen something so gross” he started his speech, before wowing us with the facts on why and how vultures are saving the earth due to their eating all the dead animals’ bacteria they find. Truly an amazing and inspirational evening!”
