The school year draws to a close

Thursday, 5 December 2024
As the school year draws to a conclusion, I would like to thank all of the Junior School students and families for what ahs been a very successful year.  As it was my first year at Investigator every week was a new adventure. My most important task was to get to know the students, staff and families which has been an absolute pleasure.

We are on the cusp of an exciting development in the school with significant building work about to get underway. Families visiting the numerous end-of-year events over the past couple of weeks would have noticed the temporary fencing erected, the demolition of the carpark underway as well as the resurfacing of the netball/basketball courts. I enjoyed watching the delight on faces of youngsters who were so distracted as they walk past big machines tearing up the carpark surface. The next phase of building work will be even more exciting when families return after the summer break.

All looking forward

A great deal of what has been happening at school recently has been planning ahead for what 2025 will look like. We have welcomed the 2025 Reception children over a series of three visits so that they get used to the classroom environment as well as getting to know the children who will be their peer group for the next 13 years!

The Reception visits took place over three weeks and for a gradually longer period of time each visit. It was a very successful series of visits and it will help the 2025 Receptions make a very smooth start in 2025.

In a similar vein, we invited students who will be joining us in Year 1 – 7 next year to attend an Orientation Day. There were new students in each of the year levels, and we did some preliminary testing with them to ascertain their strengths and then gave them ample time to get to know the children who will be their year level peers from the start of next year. After lunch the children moved into their 2025 class groups which gave the children a chance to meet their teacher for next year – and vice versa.

Our newest graduates

The children who will be moving out of the Early Learning Centre and on to ‘Big School’ had a special ceremony earlier this week.

Thank you

I would like to thank Investigator families very much for what has been a busy but enjoyable year. I wish everyone a very enjoyable festive season.  I look forward to welcoming the students back for an even better 2025.

Please note that Term 1, 2025 commences on Tuesday 28 January.

Meet the Teachers at Little Investigators Early Learning Centre

At Little Investigators Early Learning Centre, our families see familiar faces each day – teachers who know their children, notice the little things, and celebrate every milestone. The trust between parents, children and teachers is what makes our ELC such a strong and caring community. In this article, I’d like to introduce three of our teachers whose approaches to education help shape the joyful, play-based learning environment we’re so proud of.

The importance of separate learning spaces

When families visit an Early Learning Centre, they often focus on what’s most visible – the play areas, resources, and the friendliness of staff. Yet one of the most powerful influences on a child’s learning is sometimes overlooked: the way the building itself is designed.
