To celebrate on the year, our Middle School Captains, Isabella Hudson and Jack Prosser, have composed the following reflection:

This year has been wonderful for the Middle School and so much has been achieved by our students.

Throughout the year of 2023, our students have participated and excelled in many different areas of co-curriculars. These areas include representing our school on the sporting field, diving deep into the world of STEM, transcending in academics, and shining in the arts, ranging from performing arts to music and visual arts.

Over the course of 2023, so many students have made great friendships and connections through School Sports SA events. Participating in netball, cricket, swimming, athletics and more. Recently we had great success at the 7/8 Volleyball State Championships with the girls team achieving first place!

During this amazing year, we’ve had fun at all sorts of different College community and wider-community events. This year has been full of fun mornings with dogs on the quad, celebrating our parents and grandparents, and supporting causes that are close to our hearts. One of these causes is the Cancer Council. In Week 1 this term, Our Year 9s meticulously planned and worked hard to put together the Relay for Life event for the entire college. Throughout the weeks leading up to the event and on the day the Year 9s managed to raise a whopping $5023.

In the arts we had some wonderful submissions into the 2023 SALA that the college hosted this year. Also, many of our students have shown dedication putting lots of time and effort into the College Musical this year.

Students have made memories to last a lifetime on some exciting camps through the year. Year 9s travelled to Mount Crawford, where they had a once-in-a lifetime experience rock climbing, and seeing native Australian flora and fauna. Year 8s were lucky enough to visit Roonka, spending time kayaking and bonding with their classmates. Finally, Year 7s went to Port Hughes and spent the time playing along the beach and bike riding through scenic areas.

For the duration of the year, we have seen our Middle School students flourish in STEM and other academics. This year we were able to see some of our Year 7s and 8s flourish when they took to the national stage to showcase their robotics abilities. The team managed to make it all the way to the National finals in robotics. As well this year we have seen our students flourish in their academics. Just this year alone in the Middle School we had students outright winning local competitions, such as the Mayors Short Story Challenge, students being selected in the top 20 in the state for their entries in the Premiers ANZAC Spirt Prize, and students finishing in the top 1% in the nation for their chosen subject.

We are so proud of the progress the Middle School has made across the year through friendship, inclusivity, teamwork and respect, and are so excited for the next chapter and experiences yet to come. From the Middle School student leadership team we would like to say a huge congratulations to all of our Middle School peers for such a successful year and are looking forward to 2024 and what it brings.

I’d like to offer a big thank you to all of the Investigator staff for their support of our students and families. I’d also like to wish all our amazing students and families a Merry Christmas and safe holidays.
