What A Year!

Monday, 4 December 2023
It is fair to say that 2023 has been a huge year for our Senior School.

Jodie O'Donnell

Head of Senior School

We began the year with quite a number of changes in staffing and changes to some of our key positions, including the Head of Senior School.  It has been my honour to fulfil the role of the Head of Senior School in 2023. In my acceptance of the role, late last year, I was very well aware of the legacy behind me, but also so keen to develop my own. I was so excited to lead our amazing Senior School staff and welcome some new faces. Together, as a united team, we steadied the ship and embraced the challenge of guiding our students through Senior School. We also managed to have a great deal of fun along the way.

Investigator College is forging ahead in a new direction as we look to the future and evolving world, that is education. Our new buildings will commence in 2024 and new subjects will also be offered as we look to broaden the opportunities for our students. I have always embraced change and new opportunities and guide our students and staff to do the same. Why?

  • Embracing change and new challenges is a mindset that can lead to personal growth, resilience and success.
  • Change can be viewed as an opportunity for growth rather than a threat.
  • Flexibility can come from change and allow us to be adaptable and open to new ideas.
  • Challenges can be regarded as opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge.

I know I am not the only one to have grown in my own personal development and knowledge in 2023. Those of us who have embraced the changes and new opportunities can now look back on a very successful school year.

It would be almost impossible to list all of the highlights of 2023 within the Senior School, but just a few notable mentions:

  • The Year 12 Final Assembly and Graduation Dinner in Term 4. Both of these events allowed us to celebrate and farewell our graduating class of 2023. Many of the students have been students of Investigator College since Reception, way back in 2011. We wish them all the greatest happiness and success in the future.
  • The Year 11 and 12 Formal is always a highlight of a school year and this year’s event, held at the Victor Harbor Convention Centre was no exception.
  • The re-introduction of Work Experience in its full capacity. COVID has severely impacted external work experience and it was wonderful to have almost 60 of our Year 10 students undergo this very rewarding experience in 2023. The range of options taken by students was also fantastic.
  • The RU OK Day. A truly wonderful whole College day where we all joined together to raise money for a wonderful cause.
  • The Senior School students of Investigator College! They are an absolute pleasure to teach and lead and I have personally felt so supported and encouraged by them this year.
  • Our incredible staff, right across the College. It is an honour to work with them all. Their level of dedication and professionalism is simply outstanding.

Thank you to our entire College community for the support we have felt in the Senior School this year. You trusted us to guide the ship and embrace the new challenges and I am confident we accomplished our goals.  I wish you all a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to what lies ahead in 2024.

Junior School Update

The Junior School was a sea of colour recently when all children from Reception to Year 6 were involved in our annual athletics carnival. The Junior Primary students had the opportunity to challenge themselves in a series of activities that involved running, jumping and throwing.  The students from Years 3 – 6 took it up a notch as they represented their House in a series of events designed to encourage participation by all, as well as the opportunity for the athletically-able to excel.
