FACILITIES

Aurora Building

Opened in 2026, the College’s two-storey Aurora Building brings together innovative learning spaces, student services and administration in a vibrant new hub at the heart of the campus.

The building is home to a state-of-the-art library, specialist art room and Year 7 Home Groups, alongside a dedicated robotics studio featuring a full competition-scale robotics field for training, testing and hosting events. Students also benefit from a purpose-built digital media studio equipped with a green screen, soundproof recording space and private study booths.

A variety of flexible study and collaboration spaces encourage students to learn, create and connect, while modern classroom technology and abundant natural light support an engaging learning environment. Many spaces enjoy views across the oval towards the Bluff, providing a uniquely local backdrop to daily learning.

The building’s striking colour-shifting glass inspired its name, a reference to the Aurora Australis. Like the southern lights, Aurora reflects a spirit of discovery, creativity and possibility, encouraging students to explore new frontiers and pursue the extraordinary.

The Aurora Building also serves as the College’s central administration hub, conveniently located adjacent to the main car park for easy access by families and visitors.

    FACILITIES
    Currency Creek EcoCentre

A 24-acre block of waterfront land featuring classrooms, adjacent to Currency Creek (a tributary of the Murray River), our EcoCentre allows us to deliver excellent environmental science learning, character-building opportunities and Vocational Education and Training courses – earning its reputation as one of the leading environmental education facilities in the country.

A former speedboat racing site purchased by the College in 2010, the Currency Creek EcoCentre puts classrooms on the doorstep of pristine natural bushland – allowing students to engage in hands-on, practical learning and projects with real environmental impact – all within a convenient bus ride of our Victor Harbor campus.

The EcoCentre is used regularly across all year levels, from Early Learning Centre excursions through to our Vocational Education and Training opportunities for Year 11 and 12 students.

From the beginning of their learning journey, students take responsibility for the maintenance of the site (for example, by planting native flora) and monitor its health (for example, undertaking fish surveys in waders), enhancing the delivery of relevant curriculum.

Likewise, they are engaged in projects (frequently funded by environmental bodies). These have included working with trained sniffer dogs to protect vulnerable turtle species from fox predation, monitoring and replenishing populations of the Southern Bell Frog, and propagating endangered plant species in the nursery as part of the SEEDS program.

All the while, the EcoCentre provides an amazing space for Outdoor Education and formative camp experiences – with signature overnight experiences offered in Years 3, 9 and 12.

    Key programs delivered on site

    Sustainable Futures Day

As a testament to the site’s reputation as an excellent environmental learning facility, it plays host annually to Sustainable Futures Day, a gathering of Secondary School students from across South Australia, who take part in a conference-style program of guest speakers (arranged by our students) which showcases future careers in sustainability.

    Native plant sales

Many members of the local community value the high-quality native plants grown by students at the EcoCentre as part of their learning. With competitive prices and knowledgeable staff and volunteers, our plants are always in high demand.

    Performing Arts & Sports Centre

Opened in 2011, the Performing Arts & Sports Centre (PASC) is the heart of College life beyond the classroom — a flexible, large-scale facility that serves students, families and the broader Victor Harbor community.

The sports hall features three multi-sport courts, along with dedicated changerooms and high ceilings. Outside, the College’s large oval, grass quadrangle and tennis courts further extend our sporting facilities.

Outside of school hours, the PASC is used by our Outside School Hours Care program and a number of community sporting organisations.

The same space comfortably hosts large community celebrations — including our Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparents’ Day events — aided by direct service from The Galley, our much-loved College canteen.

The adjoining theatre is the largest school theatre facility in the region, with a capacity of 240. A fully fitted stage with professional lighting, curtains and a sound desk is complemented by tiered seating on three sides, creating excellent sightlines throughout.

Students rehearse and perform here year-round, with the space anchoring signature College events including our Spring Showcase and annual Musical, as well as assemblies.

      Our Masterplan

Longer-term planning for growth, expansion and upgrade of the Victor Harbor campus includes a range of exciting new facilities that will reaffirm Investigator College as the first-choice educator across the Fleurieu Peninsula and South Coast.

The construction of the new Aurora Building (completed 2026) and related carpark upgrade is the first stage of an overall master plan that includes a number of exciting developments across the campus footprint.

While these are subject to final planning, development and approval, the overall master plan includes:

      • a new Early Learning Centre, and adjoining outdoor play space, located at the front of the campus
      • new outdoor courts, adjoining the current Performing Arts and Sports Centre, complemented by a new Sports Pavillion overlooking the oval
      • Redevelopment of the Technology and Agriculture spaces
      • Refurbishments and upgrades to the Junior and Middle School;
      • Substantial site works to improve parking, traffic management and flow
      • Covered linkages and walkways between buildings, with the addition of new outdoor learning areas

With Stage 1 of the overall master plan having commenced in 2024, the fully realised development will see a modernisation of the campus, with an increased focus on flexible learning spaces, opportunities to move learning outdoors, and the addition of new facilities that will help to ensure that Investigator College makes the most of the natural environment, with enhancements to the Agriculture, Technology, Physical Education and Outdoor Play areas.

Working collaboratively with Walter Brooke Architects and the Victor Harbor Council, Investigator College is set for an exciting period of change as we grow into the future!
