LEARNING
Pathways
Investigator College prepares students for life after school, whatever form that journey takes. Whether a student is striving for a high ATAR and entry into a competitive university course, pursuing a vocational qualification, or undertaking a school-based apprenticeship, our goal is the same: to help every student become their best self.
PATHWAYS
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Investigator College supports students in Years 11 and 12 to undertake Vocational Education and Training (VET) as part of their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), both through College-based programs and external providers.
Offering VET qualifications internally is a significant benefit. Students benefit from continuity in their learning, strong support from College staff, and reduced disruption to their broader academic development while gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

Students also have access to a wide range of external VET opportunities aligned with their interests and career aspirations. These qualifications allow students to gain valuable industry skills, improve their employability, and earn SACE credits while still at school. In recent years, for example, Investigator students have completed qualifications including their CIII in Legal Services, CIII in Entrepreneurship and New Business or the CII in Electrotechnology.
Investigator College has also established industry-aligned pathways in partnership with Flinders University, enabling students who complete specific VET qualifications to gain direct entry into selected university courses.
PATHWAYS
School-based apprenticeships
School-based apprenticeships allow students to commence an apprenticeship while completing their SACE. From Year 10 onwards, students can earn a wage, gain workplace experience, and work towards an accredited qualification while remaining engaged in school.
Investigator College works closely with students, families, employers, and training providers to help balance workplace commitments, training requirements, and academic responsibilities. Our staff provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure students can successfully manage both their apprenticeship and their schooling.
Many families choose to remain at Investigator College while undertaking a school-based apprenticeship because it allows students to benefit from more than just workplace training.
They continue to receive a high-quality education, strong pastoral care, and personalised mentoring during an important stage of life.
Students remain connected to a culture of aspiration and achievement while keeping future options open as their interests and goals continue to develop.
PATHWAYS
Investig8 Program
Pathways begin well before Year 10. The earlier students begin exploring their interests and strengths, the better prepared they are to make informed decisions about their future.
Investigator College’s Investig8 program is delivered during a double lesson every Friday afternoon and allows students in Years 7 to 10 to complete eight semester-long electives across four years of schooling.
The Investig8 Program encourages students to discover new interests, develop transferable skills, and explore areas of learning beyond the traditional curriculum. By the time students reach their senior years, they have a stronger understanding of their strengths, interests, and potential pathways beyond school.
