Investigator College is the ideal home for students with a passion for the Performing Arts. Our large theatre, music and drama programs and productions nurture creativity, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills.
LEARNING
Drama & Productions
Drama and performance are woven throughout life at Investigator College, giving students countless ways to build confidence and skill on stage — from classroom subjects through to major productions.
The College nourishes a passion for and talent in drama, by offering it as a Year 7 subject, a Year 9 elective, and as a Stage 1 and 2 subject – which provides an opportunity to study drama in depth and prepare for further study or a career in the arts. Stage 1 and Stage 2 Drama students participate in a large-scale production attended by a live audience, and attend professional live performances and productions across Adelaide.
Learning is extended through the Investigator College Musical, a highlight of the school year, held annually at the end of Term 2 in our Performing Arts & Sports Centre. With three live performances, the 240-seat venue regularly sells out — a testament to the reputation of the production.
Rehearsals begin half a year before the event, attracting a cast and backstage crew of 40 to 50 students from Years 7 to 12. Beyond performing, many students gain valuable experience in costume design, stage management, choreography and backstage production.
The musical offers an extended opportunity for students to refine their acting, dance, and singing skills during Investig8 classes and afterschool rehearsals, all within our very own theatre. More than a production, the Musical is a creative home where students can express themselves freely in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Our Junior School offers a similar experience through its Christmas Concert, a cherished annual event performed in the same facilities for families to enjoy.
Many old scholars have made the most of their training, going on to study at the Drama Centre at Flinders University, the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts, and the Adelaide College of the Arts.
“I developed my passion for performing arts at Investigator because it was such a supportive and fun environment…
It was the advice and support of my teachers that led me to pursue a career in performance, and I can see how valuable their contributions were, and how their love of performing arts has helped me through my career.”
— Kathryn Adams, Accomplished Actor, Class of 2014
Learning
Music
At Investigator College, musically inclined students benefit from on-campus private tuition and specialist classes starting as early as the Early Learning Centre. Students have regular opportunities to perform and refine their craft, whether in assemblies, occasional lunchtime concerts, or our annual Spring Showcase, which celebrates the best of the College’s music program.
Our music program spans the whole school, with the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools each running their own band, alongside extra-curricular ensembles and private musical tuition for students seeking further musical development.
Committed students can continue into Year 12 with Music Explorations, Music Performance Solo, Music Performance Ensemble, and Music Ensemble subjects all available – subjects which feature an excursion to Elder Conservatorium as a highlight.
Younger students can join Feel Good Choir (Years 2–3) or Festival Choir (Years 4–6), training weekly and gaining real-world performance experience at events such as the Port Elliot Show, the Southern Metropolitan Music Festival, school assemblies, and celebrations like Grandparents Day.
