Anglican Schools Leadership Day

Year 6 Leaders attended the Anglican Schools Leadership Day held at Walford Anglican School this week. This event provided an excellent opportunity for our students to collaborate with peers from other schools, sharing ideas and perspectives on leadership. Students proudly wore their College Formal uniforms and enjoyed a day of enriching discussions. The event, complete with morning tea and lunch, was full of inspiration and learning.

Exploring Nature at Currency Creek

Last week, our ELC students had an adventurous day at the Currency Creek EcoCentre, exploring the surrounding environment with a focus on frogs. The children engaged in activities that included learning about the life cycle of frogs, listening to their distinct calls, crafting frog puppets and even singing along to “The Tadpole Blues.” The day was capped off with visits to the wetland, where students observed tadpoles and macroinvertebrates and built cubby houses, making for a truly immersive experience.

Year 2s Night at Currency Creek

In a continuation of their Earth and Space Sciences Unit, Year 2 students spent a day at the Currency Creek EcoCentre. They delved into topics like shadows, moon phases and the solar system, even creating a scale model to grasp the immense size of our cosmic neighborhood. The highlight of the trip was staying out after sunset, where students enjoyed a BBQ dinner, toasted marshmallows around the campfire and stargazed using the Night Sky app. This experience was not only educational but also a perfect precursor to their upcoming Year 3 camp.

National Science Week Celebrations

National Science Week is in full swing, with Investigator College students participating in a range of science and technology events.

Selected Year 6 visited Currency Creek, exploring how technology is used to monitor and record the flora and fauna at the EcoCentre. They participated in Citizen Science projects by using apps to collect data on local plants and animals, contributing to scientific efforts to track populations, including threatened species. The Year 6 Eco Leaders also shared their knowledge with peers and made progress on their ongoing environmental projects at the College.

And our Year 3 students had a special visit from Gerry Butler of Butterfly Conservation SA. Gerry conducted a session using VR headsets to tell the fascinating story of the connection between a threatened butterfly species, its host plant, and ants. Students also participated in planting a butterfly garden near the Senior School, contributing to the ongoing environmental efforts by our Year 9 Environmental Studies students. This hands-on experience is both educational and impactful.

SAPSASA Basketball

Our Year 5/6 teams shone at the SAPSASA Basketball Carnival, with the girls’ team, coached by Alana Coppock, going undefeated and securing a place in the State Finals. The boys’ team, led by Lucas Lane, showcased resilience, winning three consecutive games after an early loss, narrowly missing the State Finals. Both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship, making the College proud.

Year 5 Camp Adventures

The Year 5 camp was a resounding success, filled with fun activities and memorable moments. Students enjoyed a talent show featuring singers, dancers, and magicians, with the girls particularly impressing with their performances. Special thanks to the parents and staff who contributed to making this camp a fantastic experience for our Year 5 students.
