Experienced educational leader and passionate teacher Samantha Cross is joining Investigator College in 2026 as our new Head of Junior School.

Marketing & Communications Manager

With a career spanning leadership, science teaching and pastoral care across Australia and the United Kingdom, Sam Cross brings a wealth of experience to her new role with Investigator College.

Asked what she is most looking forward to, Sam doesn’t hesitate: “I want to get to know everyone. I’m a real people person, so relationships are where it starts for me — with students, staff, and families. I can’t wait to be in classrooms, learning names, seeing what makes each child tick, and understanding where I can make the greatest difference.”

Sam began her teaching journey in 2006 as a science teacher in Bristol, before taking on pastoral and leadership roles in Somerset and later in South Australia. During more than a decade at Woodcroft College, she has served as Head of Years 11 and 12, Acting SACE Coordinator and most recently, Leader of Wellbeing (R-6) in the Junior School — a role which has deepened her passion for early years education.

“When working in the senior years, I often noticed how important skills like self-regulation and resilience are — and I became interested in how we can nurture those earlier,” she says.

“Moving into Junior School was my way of helping children develop those foundations early. I just love their curiosity, their warmth, their honesty. They remind me every day why I love teaching.”

Alongside her background in science and wellbeing, Sam is passionate about sustainability and environmental education. She has helped establish green teams, productive gardens, and recycling programs in previous roles.

“Futureproofing our communities starts with children understanding their role in caring for the environment,” she says – adding that she can’t wait to be a part of Investigator’s programs at the Currency Creek EcoCentre.

Outside of work, Sam enjoys walking her miniature dachshund Rupert, sewing her own clothes and listening to podcasts — all of which keep her grounded.

“We do our best work when we’re happy,” she says. “So I make sure I look after myself — and I want the same for my staff and students.”

As she looks ahead to 2026, Sam’s excitement is unmistakable.

“I can’t wait to get started. My door will always be open to students, staff and families. I’m here to listen, to support and to keep our Junior School thriving.”

Please join us in welcoming Samantha Cross to the Investigator College community.
