There is no relationship quite like the one between grandparents and grandchildren. Without the pressures of parenthood, but with the wisdom and experience that come with age, grandparents can be devoted role models and nurturers, enthusiastic playmates and patient providers of knowledge, values and reassurance.

I have been delighted to catch up with so many of you at recent events, including Open Classrooms, assemblies, SALA opening night, our Father’s Day breakfast, P&F meetings and the Spring Showcase. In our conversations, a number of you have expressed your appreciation of Investigator’s firm commitment to student safety, which remains a paramount consideration, and I have listed just a few of our safety precautions and procedures below for your interest.

How would you describe an Investigator College student? I have fired this question at staff, parents and students alike and the responses will make you feel proud of your association with the College.

Staff and students alike have been unpacking our five new values. We want these to be living, permeating the very fabric of Investigator – not just words on a poster or the internet. Today I will share some of the ideas that have been suggested.

You know you are at a flourishing school when staff drive innovative projects, wellbeing is a prime consideration, and connections are strong.

With increased emphasis being placed on the curriculum of the home as a crucial component in fostering successful, organised and resilient students, our staff-team is really enjoying working in partnership with you this year.

It was with great pleasure that last week we released details of our new strategic plan. This followed extensive consultation, including a survey that many of you kindly completed, several forums, including with students plus numerous meetings at staff, Senior Leadership and Board level.

Hats off to our fabulous staff team! I would have loved to have commented on each of them at our AGM last night…

As a flight surgeon with the US Helicopter Regiment, Brigadier General Rhonda Cornum was aboard a Black Hawk helicopter on a search and rescue mission, looking for a downed F-16 pilot, during the Persian Gulf War.

Thank you for the positive feedback regarding our 2024 teaching executive, learning teams and the renewed focus this year on student wellbeing.

As parents we are so busy and often only have need to drop our children at the bus-stop or in the carpark.

Navigating the teenage years can be challenging, and that is why this week our Year 9 students (together with Woodcroft College) will participate in an outstanding seminar with acclaimed author and speaker Glen Gerreyn again this year.

All fathers want to excel as a parent and be a strong, yet positive, ongoing influence in our children’s lives, but this is no easy task; it takes a great deal of commitment to be role models, but it allows us to leave an important legacy.

Investigator College was recently presented on the international stage, and reaffirmed as a world-class school, as educational leaders from around the world gathered at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA) for a week-long seminar to share their visions for the future of education across the globe.

Community is a key component of the independent school experience, and the presence of our parents and caregivers at College events is often a wonderful opportunity to share insights from our daily life and learning at Investigator College.

Investigator College is pleased to announce that long-time board member, Mr Tim Donlan, has been appointed into the role of Chair of our College Board.

It is not easy being a parent, particularly when you can see that everything may not go to plan for your child.

The social intelligence of Investigator College students receives a definite boost through our Positive Education programs. By identifying signature strengths, students are poised to improve relations with others by achieving an important understanding of themselves.

Investigator students are encouraged to become happy, successful and well-rounded citizens, working towards goals in alignment with the college motto, ‘Your Best Self.’

2023 promises to be an exceptional year. At our Commencement Service last week we welcomed our brilliant new staff-members who complement the rest of our outstanding team. This is the year when you will notice so many improvements and the positivity is clearly evident. I have outlined our 2023 focus areas below.
